The 95th Birth Anniversary of Dr. M. V. Jayaraman, which we commemorate as Founder’s Day, was celebrated on May 17th 2022, at M.V Jayaraman Auditorium, MVJCE, in the august presence of Padma Bhushan Dr. B. N. Suresh, Chancellor of Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram, and Chairman of Board of Governors, MVJ College of Engineering.

The event began by invoking the blessings of the almighty, with Ms. Nireeksha and Vidwan Sri Gopal Venkataramana on the Veena and Vidwan Sri Krishna Prasad N. S on the Mridangam.

The programme continued with a video on Dr. M.V Jayaraman, to reminisce the glorious past and the journey of this multi-faceted personality. The tribute video enlightened the audience on how his compassion and generosity knew no bounds and how his commitment and sincerity helped him overcome many challenges.

Students were told to pay keen attention to the video, in order to take part in a competition where they had to answer questions on the Founder. All students participated in this competition, enthusiastically, and the first 100 students who gave correct answers were gifted with specially designed caps and t-shirts, at the end of the programme.

This was followed by the auspicious lamp lighting ceremony by the Chief Guest Padma Bhushan Dr. B. N. Suresh, Shri. M. J. Balachandar, Chairman, MVJ College of Engineering and Dr. P. Mahabaleshwarappa, Principal, MVJ College of Engineering.

The Principal Dr. P. Mahabaleshwarappa delivered the welcome address and greeted all our students and parents who were present in the auditorium. He presented a report on the achievements and highlights of the academic year 2020-2021. He conveyed his appreciation to the VTU Rank holders and the student toppers, as well as our faculty members, for their incredible achievements during the past year.

Following the Principal’s address, Ms. Krithi Vangala from Computer Science Department elucidated on the exemplary life of our Founder, Dr. M. V Jayaraman. The speech gave a detailed picture of the Founder’s life path, his struggles and achievements.

Dr. M. Brindha, Vice Principal, MVJ College of Engineering, then introduced the Chief Guest to the gathering, speaking about his illustrious career, the prestigious positions he has held, and the awards and accolades that he has received. This was followed by the Founder’s Day address by our Chief Guest, Padma Bhushan Dr. B. N. Suresh. He appreciated the growth of MVJCE over the years and commended the dedication and hard work put in by Dr. M. V Jayaraman which has greatly contributed to the success of all MVJ Institutions. He also gave valuable inputs and motivated the students and faculty members to strive harder and reach greater heights.

This was followed by the Award Distribution ceremony, where awards were given to the VTU Rank holders, College Toppers and Student Toppers for the academic year 2020 – 2021. The Vinay Deepak Memorial Award was also presented to the topper in Mechanical Engineering. The VTU Rank holders were awarded a cash prize of Rs.25,000/- each, and the Vinay Deepak Memorial Award winner received a memento and a cash prize of Rs. 15,000/-. The College Toppers and Student Toppers were awarded Rs. 5,000/- and Rs. 2,500/- respectively. The winners of the 17th Dr. M. V. Jayaraman Memorial Inter Collegiate Leather Ball Cricket Tournament were awarded with trophy, medals, certificates, and a cash prize of Rs. 15,000/-. The runner–up team also received trophy, medals, certificates, and a cash prize of Rs. 10,000/-.

Cash prize rewards were given for the faculty members who have published papers in Scopus and Web of Science Journals with a high impact factor. Dr Sunil Shankar Wadder, Associate Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering won the Best Teacher award, with a cash prize of Rs. 5,000/-. Prof Tamil Selvam, Assistant Professor from the Department of Aeronautical Engineering won the Best Young Teacher award, with a cash prize of Rs. 5,000.

The programme concluded with Vote of Thanks by the Principal who thanked the Chief Guest and all the participants. He congratulated all the winners, students, parents and faculty members who made this event a memorable one. The event ended with the National Anthem.
