Semiconductor based Photocatalysis

Water pollution, caused by the thoughtless disposal of chemicals, dyes, wastes, plastics and other organic pollutants, has severely affected the natural water resources, causing a significant threat to the availability of clean drinking water. Advanced Oxidation Process (AOP) uses highly reactive species to destroy pollutants by creating hydroxyl radicals in the water. As a result, most organic compounds are oxidized to less harmful chemicals. Frequently used AOPs are photolysis, photo-Fenton, and photocatalysis, which create radicals using semiconductors and light energy.

Dr. M. Prathap Kumar is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry. His research areas are Semiconductor photocatalysis and Materials Science. Dr. Prathap completed his PhD from Central Leather Institute (CSIR-CLRI), Adyar, Chennai. He has published 10 papers in reputed international journals.

He did his Doctorate programmein 2020 at Anna University, Chennai, specializing in Digital Signal Processing. The title of his Research thesis was ‘Pulse compression in radar with low paper,using gaussianfilter based phase accumulator’. He has worked in different areas of research like Image processing, Radar, Signal processing and classification and Satellite communication. He has published 5 SCI Papers in high impact factor journals. He is a lifetime member of ISTE.

Dr. D. Bharath securedaPostgraduate degree in Physics (2008) from Periyar University, Salem, TamilNadu.He got hisDoctorate degree from VIT University(2014), in the field of Nonlinear Optical Materials with Z-scan optical construction and crystal growth for Photonic application. He receivedthe BestResearch award in 2013-14,from VIT University. He has technical expertise in Z-scan technique, Bridgeman method and SHG by using Nd-YAG LASER. His research interests are in optical materials andlow &high temperature crystal growth for photonic application. He has contributed significantly to the academic community with over 10 research articles published in reputed journals (Elsevier, Taylor & Francis, and Springer) and worked as Head of the Department in various colleges.Dr. D. Bharath is working on Nano optical materials, at present.

Dr. Brindha Mohan is a consummate researcher and accomplished academician, with an impressive 17-year track record in the field of Education. She did her Masters degree at College of Engineering, Guindy, Anna University. She is a Gold Medalist in her Postgraduate studies. With a Ph.D. in Networked Control System, Dr.Brindha Mohan has continuously demonstrated an exceptional expertise in curriculum development, classroom instruction and administration. Throughout her academic journey, she evinced a lot of passion and commitment that endowed on her, various leadership positions with increasing responsibilities - offices like Head of the Department, IQAC Coordinator, NAAC and NBA Coordinator and Vice Principal at MVJ College of Engineering, Bangalore.

She is certified by National Instruments as a LabVIEW Associate Developer. She has trained many faculty and students in LabVIEW. She has several papers to her credit, including Scopus and IEEE. Her research areas include Embedded Systems, Control Systems, Computer Networks, Distributed and Real time systems. His research interests are studying the stability, controllability and synchronization of various stochastic neural networks. Dr. D V Rajeshwari Devi, Associate Professor in the Dept. of ECE, MVJ College of Engineering, Bengaluru,has a teaching experience of 17 years and 2 months. She has completed Ph.D from BMSCE Research Centre, VTU, Belagavi, in 2019. The title of her Research thesis was ‘Hybrid feature extraction and fusion methods for robust multimodal biometric system’. Her research interests are Signal Processing, Image Processing, Multimodal Biometrics and Machine Learning. Dr. D V Rajeshwari Devi has one patent publication and several publications in Scopus indexed journals, Book chapters and IEEE conferences. She has received a grant of Rs.93,000 from AICTE for the conducting of ATAL FDP on Artificial Intelligence. She is currently guiding two research scholars, under VTU. She is actively involved in continuous research work and applying for project grants.

Dr. T. Daniel secured M.Sc in Physics (2014) from the Department of Physics, ManonmaniamSundaranar University, Tamil Nadu. He got his Doctoral degree in Physics (2015-2021) also from the same university. Dr. Daniel’s research interests are in the area of thin film solar photovoltaics, photo electrochemical cells, nanomaterials for energy storage and photocatalytic applications. He is the recipient of the UGC- Basic Science Research Fellow (JRF&SRF) during2015-2020. Dr. I. Hameem Shanavas is Professor, and currently the Head of the ECE Department, MVJCE,Bangalore. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communication (2006), Masters in VLSI Design (2008), Masters in Business Administration (2009) and PhD (2015) from Anna University, Chennai. The title of his Research thesis was ‘Design and development of optimal solution for VLSI physical design automation’. Dr. Manu D S

With a Ph.D in Civil Engineering in Environmental Specialization, Dr. Manu’s area of research is Waste Management, including physical treatment (adsorption), chemical (photocatalysis) and biological (MBR, MBBR and ASP) wastewater treatment, soft computing modelling to predict performance of biological wastewater treatment units, and use of industrial waste in construction. Dr. Manu is an expert in this domain, and has supervised over 15 student projects. He guides students to take up innovative projects, motivates them to participate in various competitions and convert Innovative ideas into Prototype models. He has 10 publications to his credit, of which 4 are Scopus, 4 are SCI indexed and 2 in UGC approved journals. He has published research articles in esteemed journals such as Environmental Technology, Water Science & Technology (IWA), Applied Water Science, Resource-Efficient Technologies, Engineering Structures & Technologies and Current World Environment.

He has research experience in designing small scale integrated biological wastewater treatment, for individual households to reuse treated wastewater for various recreational purposes. His future research interests include Waste management (conversion of agricultural and food waste into energy), Integrated hybrid treatment (decentralized) for zero discharge, Reuse of industrial waste in construction, and Mathematical modelling.

Dr. U. Naveenakumara is an award-winning researcher and academician, with an impressive track record of over 6years. He holds a Ph.D.in Mathematics with specialization in Wavelets,from VSK University at Ballari, Karnataka. The areas of his research interest include Wavelets, Digital Image Processing, and Numerical Analysis. Dr. Reshmi Varma obtained Postgraduate degree in Physics (2009) from Government College Madappalli(Calicut University) and Doctoral degree in Physics (2011-2017) from Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Thiruvananthapuram (IISERTVM). Dr. Reshmi’s research interests lie in the areas of hybrid organic inorganic Perovskite solar cells, organic solar cells, applications of plasmonic materials in organic electronic devices, and 2D materials, mostly from the point of view of the physics of these systems. Dr.Sajithra Varun S received her B.E Degree in Electronics and Communication from PET Engineering College, Tirunelveli, Tamil Nādu, in 2004. She got her Ph.D in Electronics and Communication from Visvesvaraya Technological University, Karnataka, in 2021. He has hands-on research experience in composite preparation (manual stir method, hand lay-up, vacuum bagging, compression molding) and conducting of tests using Universal Testing Machine (Performing Tensile, Flexural and Compression tests), Experimental Modal Analysis-Free and Forced vibrations, DMA testing, Scanning Electron Microscope, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Particle size analyzer, Single screw extruder and 3D Printer.

Dr. Sunil Shankar Waddar has published research articles in reputed journals. His current research deals with the testing of polymer composites for better thermal insulation properties, development of Tufted composites and their characterization. To date, he has published 23 Papers in various reputed Journals and Conferences. His future research interests lie in leveraging his experience in manufacturing polymer composites reinforced with fillers such as fibers and particles, and understand the structure property correlations, making them suitable for aerospace and automobile applications.

Dr. Sunil Shankar Waddar has received grants to the tune of Rs. 3.78 Lakhs from various agencies, till date. He also trains students in Ideation and Design Thinking, He guides them in taking up innovative projects, and motivates them to participate in various competitions. He has published research articles in esteemed and reputed journals such as Journal of Nanomaterials, Energy, Materials, Polymer Composites etc. His current research deals with the synthesis and characterization of metal matrix composites for advanced aerospace applications. Till date he has published 63 Papers in various reputed Journals and conferences. His future research interests are to leverage his experience in manufacturing metal matrix composites for aerospace and automobile applications. He has received grant up to the tune of 5.3 Lakhs from various agencies till date. He is keen on guiding students to take up research activities on powder metallurgy and metal additive manufacturing.

Dr. Rajesh Kumar P has a vast experience in cable mechanics and stress analysis. He has carried out research on cable bending and mechanics. His current research deals with the mathematical modeling and numerical studies of cable bending and stress analysis. Till date he has published more than 10 papers in various reputed Journals and conferences. His future research interests are to leverage his experience and guide students in cable mechanics and stress analysis. He is keen on guiding students to take up research activities on Constrained Bending Phenomenon of a Single Layered Cable Assembly and Characterization of the Stiffness of a single layered cable assembly over a sheave with internal friction.
