The Department of Chemical Engineering & Civil Engineering organized a Short-Term Training Programme on "Sustainable Environmental Technologies and Practices" from October 9, 2023 to October 11, 2023 at Seminar Hall 4. The programme aimed to provide participants with valuable insights into sustainable environmental technologies and practices, with a specific focus on wastewater management and treatment. The welcome address was given by Sanjeev, Final year chemical engineering student. He introduced the guest and called for the lecture.

A Guest Lecture on “Industrialization and its Impact on Environment and Society” was organized by the Department of Chemical Engineering, MVJCE on August 14, 2023, from 10.30 AM to 12.30 PM in the seminar hall 5, MVJCE. Club Activity – Just a minute on science topics (EXTEMPORE)

This program is intended for first-year chemistry cycle students. 112 students registered and 100 students participated in the event. The activity was conducted in 2 rounds. In the first round students were asked to pick a chit from the pool of chits and asked to talk on the topic given in the chit for about 2 minutes. Student's performance is evaluated based on their “ability to think spontaneously, thinking process, understanding of the topics, and clarity of expression”.

Guest lecture on ‘Advances in Petroleum Refining Processes’

The Department of Chemical Engineering, MVJCE, organized a Guest Lecture on ‘Advances in Petroleum Refining Processes’, by Dr. G Valavarasu, Deputy General Manager, HP Green R&D Centre, Bangalore. The session was conducted at Seminar Hall 6, from 2.00 pm to 3.30 pm, on 22.02.2020. The Guest Lecture helped the students to understand current technologies used in Petroleum Refining. The students got an insight into novel catalyst development used for key refining operations, energy efficient processes used in industry, residue upgradation for more valuable products, exploration of alternate energy sources like bio-fuels, hydrogen, solar etc.

Guest Lecture on “Introduction to DNA nanotechnology”.

The Department of Chemical Engineering, MVJCE, organised a Guest Lecture on ‘Introduction to DNA Nanotechnology’ by Dr. Banani Chakraborty, Visiting Faculty, IISc, Bangalore. The session was conducted in Seminar Hall 6, from 2.30 am to 4.00 pm, on 27.09.2019. The Lecture enabled the students to understand the basics and importance of the emerging technology called DNA Nanotechnology. The Lecture helped them to learn the applications of DNA nanostructures in DNA Chips, DNA Robotics, DNA transistors, biocatalysis, DNA computing, disease diagnosis and drug delivery.

The Department of Chemical Engineering, MVJCE, organised a Guest Lecture on ‘Droplet Microfluidics’ by Dr. Danny Raj M, INSPIRE Faculty, Department of Chemical Engineering, IISc, Bangalore.The session was conducted at Rajalaksmi Seminar Hall, from 8.00am to 9.30am, on 21.09.2019. The Guest Lecture was attended by 130 students of 3rd, 5th and 7th Semesters, along with 8 faculty members, from the Department of Chemical Engineering. The lecture enabled the students to learn few basics about the Droplet Microfulidics, the field of study which consists of producing and manipulating droplets inside very small channels for different applications

The Department of Chemical Engineering, MVJCE, organised a Guest Lecture on ‘Ancient Indian Lessons in Chemical Engineering’by Dr. Amol Mahulkar, Senior Intellectual Property & Intelligence Analyst, Airbus, Bangalore. The session was conducted at Seminar Hall 6, from 9.30 am to 11.30 am, on 15.04.2019. The Guest Lecture was attended by 48 students of 6th and 4th semesters, along with 7 faculty members, from the Department of Chemical Engineering. Dr. Amol Mahulkar stold the students to pay more attention to ancient IndianChemical Engineering knowledge, and use it forthe benefit of humanity to provide new biological and ecological insights which have potential value for the management of natural resources, and might be useful in conservation of environment.

Guest Lecture on “Demystifying sustainability”

Guest Lecture on ‘Demystifying sustainability’ was delivered by Dr. Ashok Menon, Global Technology Leader, SABIC Technology Centre, Bangalore, India. The event conducted on 13th October 2018, at Seminar Hall No. 4 from 10:30AM to 12:00PM. The students were educated in detail about Sustainability, a topic which has been receiving significant attention, recently. They were prodded to think about the need, necessity and routes for achieving sustainability.

  • The Department of Chemical Engineering, MVJCE, organised a Guest Lecture on "Design, Modelling and Simulation in Chemical Engineering” by Dr. Sreejit Nair ,Staff Scientist, SABIC Research & Technology Pvt. Ltd. The session was conducted at Seminar Hall 6, from 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m, on 23.09.2017. The Guest Lecture was attended by 80 students of 3rd and 5th Semesters, along with 7 faculty members, from the Department of Chemical Engineering. The lecture stressed on the application of fundamentals, the role of modelling and simulation in problem solving.

  • The Department of Chemical Engineering, MVJCE, organised a Guest Lecture on "Development of Petrochemical Processes and Catalyst" by Dr. Ananda B. Halgeri Director Poornaprajna Institute of Scientific Research, Bangalore on 28th October 2017 from 9:30AM to 12:30PM at Seminar hall No 5. The lecture stressed on the roles of Chemical Engineers as process engineers in the petroleum and catalytic processes. The speaker explained that the beauty of being a chemical engineer in the petrochemical and specialty chemical industries is that they can almost justify any and every position.

  • On January 25, 2024, a guest lecture titled "Solar Energy - A Power Industry in the Making" was held by Department of Chemical Engineering, with Dr. Chetan Raghuveer, the Director of Enfros Technologies Pvt Ltd, as the speaker. The lecture sought to offer a comprehensive understanding of the present condition and future potential of solar energy as a prominent participant in the electricity sector. Students of III & V Sem Chemical Engineering, V sem Electrical Engineering, & V Sem A Section ECE students have attended the session.

  • The Department of Chemical Engineering, MVJCE has conducted a Guest Lecture on E-Waste Management-Issues and Challenges on 06-03-2024. Students of III, V and VIII semester have attended the Session. The resource person for this Guest lecture was Mr. Ramesh Kumar BN, Chief Environmental Officer (Rtd), KSPCB. The Session was highly informative and engaging that aimed to address the critical issues and challenges associated with the management of electronic waste. The lecture provided valuable insights into the environmental, social, and economic aspects of e-waste, offering a comprehensive understanding of the challenges faced in its proper disposal and recycling. The session focused on how effective management of electronic waste is linked to several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) such as Goal 3 (Good health and Well-being), Sustainable environment (SDGs 6, 11, 12). The session was followed by question and answer session, allowing participants to engage directly with the expert. The participants had the opportunity to seek clarifications, share insights, and explore potential solutions to the challenges discussed.
