PG Program – Transportation Engineering

The Curriculum of the Post graduate program in Transportation Engineering has been framed to meet the NEP (National Education Policy) requirements, by focusing on a holistic approach to the teaching-learning process. The course offers flexibility in the selection of professional and open elective courses, this kind of flexibility being one of the hallmarks of NEP 2020. The Curriculum has been designed after a lot of deliberations with the Board of Studies, with valuable inputs from eminent experts in Industry and Academia.

The course structure has 80 Credits, with 22 in the Odd semester and 18 in the Even semester. Courses related to Skill and Career advancements have been added in the program. Professional Courses on Traffic Engineering and Transport Planning are integrated with skill-based laboratories. In the First year, students study Ability Enhancement Courses (AEC) in the field of Advanced Software applications in Traffic Engineering and High-Speed Rail connectivity, through online platforms like NPTEL, SWAYAM and other MOOCs, to enhance their professional skills.

Professional Electives covering different areas of Transportation Engineering, like Road safety, Intelligent Transport system, Pavement Evaluation, Traffic flow, Railway and Harbours, Construction techniques and Transportation Structures, are introduced in the 2nd and 3rd semesters.

Advanced mathematical method, Research methodology and IPT have been added in the scheme, to improve the computation skills and research perspective of students and prepare them to approach societal challenges, with confidence. This fosters Multidisciplinary education, one of the key points put forth by NEC. Apart from the courses mentioned, Internship, Mini-Projects, Seminars, Online Certification Courses and Project work on societal issues help to shape our students into well-rounded professionals.

NEP was formulated by the Government of India in 2020, to ensure that tomorrow’s generation shapes into creative, sharp-thinking, socially-conscious individuals. The Curriculum for the Post graduate program in Transportation Engineering ensures that the Post graduates who leave the portals of MVJCE at the end of two years, are skilled professionals who possess great character and a social consciousness to transform the society around them.
