The Department of ECE organized a one-day Workshop on ‘RASPBERRY PI – IOT’. The session was organized for pre-final and final year students of ECE. 125 students and 20 faculty members participated in this program, which was organized on 26th November 2022, at Seminar Hall 4, MVJCE.

The inauguration of this Workshop was presided over by Dr. P. Mahabaleswarappa (Principal, MVJCE), Dr. M. Brindha (Vice-Principal, MVJCE) and Dr. Vivek Yoganand (Senior Associate, Red Hat, Bangalore) who was the Resource Person for the Workshop.

The main objective of this workshop was to demonstrate the hardware and software portions of Raspberry PI, which is a powerful little beast and a great platform for building low-cost, but highly capable, embedded systems. The interfaces built into its GPIO connector make it easy to bolt on modules using simple low-cost electronics and a bit of configuration, to create very functional and flexible systems. This Workshop englightended the students with details about what exactly Raspberry Pi is, what hardware and software are included, how to write the first program for it, and how to get it to interact with a web service on the Internet, besides gaining practical skills on the Internet of Things.

About the Speaker

Dr. Vivek Yoganand is an expert in Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence with Python Programming, building IoT Solutions and automating tasks with Robotic Process Automation. He is proficient in the following:

  • Technology- Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, IoT, RPA. IoT Tools – NodeMCU, Raspberry Pi, Upsquared Board, Thingspeak, Adafruit, Edge Impulse etc.
  • Programming – Python, Embedded C
  • Cloud – IBM, AWS, Azure, Oracle Cloud, Github version control
  • Frameworks – Tensorflow, Keras, Sci-Kit Learn, Flask, Streamlit
  • RPA Tools – UiPath Studio, Orchestrator, Robotic Enterprise Framework

Session Details

The Session covered the following aspects:

  • Introduction to Raspberry PI-IOT
  • Open shift technology and Kubernetes
  • Defining IOT with 5G Network
  • Application of Internet of Things on Raspberry PI
  • Key concepts of Kibana
  • RHCOS core OS using Raspberry PI
  • Basic algorithms
  • Dockers and Containers resources
  • Simulation and implementation using Raspberry PI

Outcome of the Workshop

After the completion of the Workshop, students were able to understand:

  • The basic concepts of Raspberry Pi
  • How Raspberry Pi is integrated both in software and hardware
  • How it can interact with a web service of internet

In this Workshop, students were encouraged and taught to work with Raspberry Pi development platform, to develop innovative projects in the field of Internet of Things (IoT).
