The novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) is not diminishing without vaccine, but its impact on human safety and the country’s economy can be minimized by adopting smart technology to combat this pandemic situation. The implementation of new innovations and novel tactics has proven to be effective in curbing the risk of COVID-19. The present study covers the role of smart technology in mitigating the spread of COVID-19 with specific focus on advancements in the field of drones, robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), ML, IoT, masks, sensor technology and many more. The main objective of this Webinar was to create an awareness of the existing Smart Healthcare Solutions, with special focus on COVID-19 pandemic.132 participants registered for the event.

The Webinar was inaugurated by Dr. P Mahabaleswarappa, Principal, MVJ College of Engineering. In his inaugural speech, he pointed out how COVID-19 has rapidly affected our day-to-day-life, education and businesses and severely disrupted world trade and travel. To combat this global issue, advancements in information technology, including medicine, biotechnology and medical instrumentation, are being used, where machine learning, artificial intelligence and data science are all making significant contributions to the COVID-19 battle. The Principal also noted that there is a good chance of overcoming the pandemic and returning to normal life, by using such technologies.

After the Principal’s address, Prof. Latha S S from the Department of Information Science and Engineering introduced the Resource Speaker Dr. S Balamurugan, SMIEEE ACM Distinguished Speaker, Founder and Chairman - Albert Einstein Engineering and Research Labs, Vice Chairman - Renewable Energy Society of India.

Dr. S Balamurugan started his lecture session, delving on the following topics:

  • Research opportunities arising out of COVID-19
  • Protection of sensitive data of Personal Healthcare Records (PHRs)
  • Usage of information in evaluating the economic model
  • Data protection and conversion in COVID-19 pandemic times

Following the lecture, there was a question-and-answer session, where the participants clarified their doubts with the Resource Speaker.

Finally, the Webinar concluded with vote of thanks by Dr. Sanchari Saha, HoD, Dept. of Information Science and Engineering, MVJCE, Bangalore.

Outcome of the Event:

The participants gained awareness on various research opportunities that arise out of COVID-19. They also gained knowledge on the methodologies that can be used for adequately protecting data from unauthorized disclosure.
