Dynamech Club Activity – ‘Waste To Product’

DYNAMECH Club Activity on ‘CADEX – MODELLING THE FUTURE’ was successfully conducted, in association with ISTE, IIEC and IQAC – MVJCE, on 26^th November, 2022. This DYNAMECH Club Activity was designed to bring out the talent inherent in the students, and to impress upon them the importance of design thinking and product development, for their career. 36 participants (32 students from 5^th semester and 4 from 7^th semester) participated in this event with enthusiasm and zeal.

Dr. Vivekananand B Huddar, Professor and Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department, welcomed the Chief Guest Mr. Sunil G S, Manager-MD’s Office, Mercedes Benz Research and Development India Ltd. He motivated the students to participate in the event and explained the significance of converting waste materials into products. Mr. Sunil G S, Chief Guest of the event, highlighted the importance of recycling waste materials into products, and the importance of design thinking and innovation in building one’s career, especially in the automotive industries. He also stressed on the need for ‘R3’ – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle of waste materials, in Mechanical industries.

The competetion started with Dr. Santhosh N, Associate Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, giving an overview of the rules and regulations to be followed. The Club activity, ‘Waste to Product’, comprised of two major stages. In the first stage, the participants utilized the waste materials available in the department and converted these into useful products like basket, recyclable paper bags, mobile stand, pen stand etc. In the second stage, the students were told to give a presentation on their product. The students were judged, based on five major criteria viz., C1-Novelty and Creativity, C2-As is Materialization, C3-Material Utilization, C4-Recyclability and Sustainability, C5-Presentation.

Overall, the Club Activity was very well coordinated. With the main impetus on the conversion of waste materials into useful products, the students were actively engaged in the event.

The Club Activity concluded with the announcement of Winners by Mr. Sunil G S, Chief Guest of the program. He offered words of encouragement on how to take this forward, by converting raw materials into products, for bringing in sustainability and recyclability in product development. He encouraged the participants to participate actively in all the future events, and develop the skills and aptitude required for career growth.
