The Department of Information Science and Engineering, MVJCE, organized an Industrial Visit on 10th February 2020, to CSIR fourth Paradigm Institute – HPC Centre, Bangalore, for 4th semester ISE students. The students, along with the faculty members Dr. Mannar Mannan and Dr. Muzammil Hussain started at 12:30 pm from MVJCE campus in the college bus, and reached the Centre at 1:30 pm. After security check, students and faculty members were received by Mr. Pabhu, Senior Scientist, who took them to the CSIR conference room, to deliver a Guest Lecture which enlightened our students on the following concepts:
i) High Performance Computing (HPC), using supercomputers
ii) Applications of High-Performance Computing (e.g. ocean modelling, weather forecasting, health care system etc.) Industrial Visit Event from the Department of Information Science & Engineering
iii) Evolution of Supercomputer – convecx3820 (1994), altix (2001–2012), Ananta (present CSIR supercomputer)
iv) Characteristics and architecture of the supercomputer clusters (like computing platform, cores, cluster parallel file system, memory in FLOPS etc.)
v) Data center features in terms of tier-3 compliance, UPS features, Internet and storage capacity
vi) The supercomputers in India – SERC (IISC), ananta (CMMAC) etc. The supercomputers around the world – NRCPS (China), Cray (USA) etc.
vii) Their institution functionalities, operations and various divisions
