1–day Workshop on ‘The Art of Literature Review – Theory and Practice’

On 10.05.2022 from 10:00 am to 04.00 pm, at the Dr. M V Jayaraman auditorium, MVJCE, the Department of Chemical Engineering hosted a 1-day Workshop on ‘The art of literature review – Theory and Practice’. Dr. Ujwal S Meda, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemical Engineering, RVCE, Bangalore, was the Chief Guest for the Workshop. 325 participants, that included students and faculty of MVJ College of Engineering, attended this Workshop.

About the Speaker

Dr. Ujwal S Meda is currently working as an Assistant Professor at R V College of Engineering in the Department of Chemical Engineering. He has over 13 years of academic, research, and industrial work experience in multinational (Europe, UK, India), multicultural and multilingual environments. He is the head of the Center of Hydrogen and Green Technology, R V College of Engineering, Bangalore. He has established fruitful collaborations with researchers/ institutions in India and abroad. He has around 40 publications in international journals, to his credit. He has one patent granted and one published, with two more filed on hydrogen gas sensors and on the methods to enhance the performance of a microbial fuel cell. He has got a DST fund of around 7 lakhs for the development of geopolymer composites for enhanced mechanical properties.

A Brief Account of the Lecture

The session began at 10.00 am and was hosted by Ms. Maitri G of the 8th Semester who welcomed the Chief Guest as well as all students in the 6th and 8th semesters of all the departments, and faculty members from the Chemical Engineering Department. Dr. P Mahabaleswarappa, Principal, MVJCE, gave the welcome address to start the session. He extended warm greetings to the audience as well as the Chief guest. He stressed the important role of research, in both Academia and Industry. Dr. M A Lourdu Antony Raj, Professor, and Controller of Examinations, MVJCE, also graced the occasion.

The first session of the Workshop began at 11.00 am, with Dr. Ujwal S Meda presenting an informative lecture on ‘The art of literature review – Theory and Practice’. He gave detailed input on understanding the requirements of the research community. He emphasized the need for reviewing the literature and the systematic ways of doing it. The documentation of the project reports can be learned effectively with the help of effective tools.

In the second session, Dr. Ujwal S Meda spoke about the practice of using relevant tools. He gave detailed information on Data collection, documentation (building and handling literature database), and the significance of Reporting. Reporting includes Referencing. He added that the students should be able to carry out a detailed literature review and prepare a project report with the help of the tools learned. He encouraged the students to utilize modern tools for their research work. Then, there was a Q&A session, where Dr. Ujwal S Meda took questions from the audience and cleared the doubts of students.

Ms. Maitri G proposed the Vote of Thanks to the Management, Principal, COE, and Vice-Principal of MVJCE for providing this opportunity to gain knowledge on the different tools and the importance of Literature. A special thanks to IT HELPDESK and the rest of the team for their technical assistance throughout the session.

The Outcome of the Workshop

The workshop helped the students understand how to improve and build their ideas by using modern tools while writing research articles.
