Every Year, MVJ College of Engineering celebrates the Founder’s Day, on 17thMay. This year also, MVJ College of Engineering commemorated the Founder’s Day on 17.05.2019 (Friday), at 10:30 am, in the Dr. MV Jayaraman Auditorium, heralding the 92nd Birth Anniversary of Dr. M V JAYARAMAN – Founder and Mentor of MVJ Group of Institutions.
A humble tribute in the form of a video was played – it enabled the audience to reminisce the days and glorious past of Dr. M V Jayaraman. The dignitaries comprising Chief Guest Dr. P Balaram (Retired Director – Indian Institute of Science), Dr. MJ Mohan (Chairman – MVJ Group of Institutions), Guest of Honor Sri. T Prabhakar (Former Chairman of NGEF and KSRTC), along with Dr. Nagaraj Sitaram (Principal – MVJ College of Engineering) adorned the dais. The dignitaries who were welcomed with bouquets, lit the lamp to symbolize the darkness of ignorance, being replaced by the light of knowledge.
Ms. Maanvi, a 2ndYear BE – CSE student then took the audience through the arduous journey of Dr. M V Jayaraman, a journey sure to inspire each and everyone to work towards transforming his dreams into reality.
Ms. Lavanya, 1stYear BE – CSE student introduced Dr. P Balaram, the Chief Guest. Dr. P Balaram addressed the gathering and shared his life experiences. He stressed on the necessity of going to the basic definitions of things and understanding them. He emphasized that studying Biology is also important for Engineers. He captured the attention of the audience through his sense of humor while he focused on what constitutes student development. He gave an interesting insight into the origin of the first one-way street – a traffic jam! The students thoroughly enjoyed his address – it will not be forgotten any time soon.
After that, Ms. Sunidhi Guptha, a First Year BE Aeronautical student, introduced Sri. T Prabhakar, Guest of Honor of the Founders Day celebrations. Sri. Prabhakar shared with the audience, his close association with the Founder Dr. M V Jayaraman. He spoke about the fact that Dr. Jayaraman was a down-to-earth, kind-hearted and generous person. He glorified the role of a teacher and affirmed that teaching is the noblest profession, and each student should make it a point to teach at least one needy person, for the uplift of society.
No Founders Day celebration is complete, without the awarding of Certificates and Cash Awards to meritorious students, under the following categories.
- VTU Rank holders
- ‘Vinay Deepak Memorial Award’ (Gold Medal) which is a special award instituted in memory of a Mechanical Engineering student Mr. Vinay Deepak who left for the heavenly abode owing to a train accident. This award is given every year, to the Department topper from Mechanical Engineering.
- Department toppers of MVJCE, for the current year
- Students who got 100% marks in examinations conducted by Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU)
- Students who excelled in the Sports competitions conducted by Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU)
- Department toppers of MVJ Polytechnic, for the current year
- Students who obtained 100% marks in Board of Technical Education
- Faculty members who worked relentlessly and obtained 100% results
- Faculty members who had published papers in International Journals, with high Impact.
In all, 11 faculty members and 82 students received awards during this Ceremony. 20 Gold medals and 69 Silver medals were awarded to students and faculty members. Gold Medals were awarded to VTU rank holders and Sports Achievers. Silver Medals were awarded to the Department toppers, and 100 % marks in the exams conducted by VTU.
The faculty members were also honored with Gold medals, for securing 100% student results in their respective subject. Cash prizes and certificates were bestowed on faculty, for Book publication and for best paper publications in reputed journals with high impact.
Thus, the Founders Day Celebrations – 2019 culminated on a happy note, with each member of the audience making a solemn resolve to walk in the footsteps of our beloved Founder and keep his heritage alive through hard work that will bring glory to the Institution that he so painstakingly founded.
