CLUB ACTIVITY ‘CHEMLIFE’ – MODEL MAKING COMPETITION ON ‘INNOVATIVE TECHNIQUES ON REUSE AND REDUCTION OF PLASTIC POLLUTION 2019-2020

By MVJCE

The Department of Chemistry organized club activity entitled ‘CHEM LIFE’ on the topic Model making competition on ‘innovative techniques on reuse and reduction of plastic pollution’, on 25th September 2019, at the R & D  Lab, Chemistry Department. The event started at 10:30 am and ended at 12:45 pm. 15 students of B.E 1st year Chemistry Department, participated in the activity.

Round I: Power Point Presentation

Six teams participated in this round, which was for 30 minutes. In this round, the students had to make a Power Point presentation. Each team gave a brief description about their model idea and application.  At the end of Round I, all the teams made it to Round II.

Round II: Model Making

Six teams participated in this round and the team members started making their models and charts on reducing and reusing plastic waste, satisfying all the requirements of the competition.  This was completed by 12:30 pm.

Round III: Presentation of Working Model

The teams demonstrated their model in the presence of jury members, HOD and faculty members. The jury assessed the models demonstrated by the students. Judgement was taken on the basis of the demonstration done by each team. Certificates were issued to all the participants, and cash prize was given to the winning team. The event wound up by 12:45 pm.

The 1st place was secured by SRINEETA (CSE), ANKITA (ECE) and ADITYA NARAYAN SAHOO (ECE), for the model ‘Bubble Blower machine from Plastic waste’.

The 2nd place went to by KARUNA (ECE) and AKSHITA (ECE) for the model ‘Plastic Vaccuum Cleaner’.

Students found the event very interesting, interactive and beneficial. They demonstrated their models with great enthusiasm, pitched in new ideas and actively took part in the club activity.

Outcome of the Event

The participants understood the roles and responsibilities of aspiring engineers, in removing and reducing plastic waste. The proposed ideas and innovative techniques were very fruitful and can be used in future to protect the environment from plastic waste. Students came up with novel ideas for protecting the environment, and proved how monitoring and protection of the environment can be done with new upcoming technologies.
